Patrick Murray, 5th Lord Elibank (
1703-
1778). Son of
Alexander Murray, 4th Lord Elibank and Elizabeth Stirling. An
author and
economist much respected in his own time. Member of the Cocoa Tree Club and
The Poker Club.

In 1722 Murray was admitted to the
Faculty of Advocates. However rather than practising as a lawyer, he determined to pursue a military career eventually becoming a lieutenant-colonel in the Marines. In 1740 he retired from the army and returned to Scotland where he took up literary pursuits.
Murray died on the 3rd of August, 1778.
